Opinions needed

Baiji

Lately, I haven't had much time to think about what topic I am to present for Proficiency V's oral presentation on the 24th--well, that and also I kept on thinking I had ample time to think about what I would present.

Here's the problem; Dr. Mahmud said we could talk about anything we wanted.

(Problem no.2 is that I absolutely ABHOR public speaking [thus presentations] but this is always a problem anyway ;) )

That should've made me happy, right? Unfortunately, it didn't. I'd much rather him give us a specific area to then explore our presentation options instead of giving us an infinite scope. But, I guess can't really please everybody.

I'm up at 2:21am, oddly enough thinking about my prospective topic. Actually, I do have an idea in mind but when compared to the rest, it seemed a little narrow. Su Lyn will be presenting something about blogs, Edmond about prostitution and Shubes about some car related topic which I can't remember now.

My idea remains the same as always. It's not just a serious topic (which we must have anyway) but it sprung to mind because it was something I am passionate about. Still, I'm a wee bit worried that not everyone shares my interest and I may end up boring them during an awfully long 20 minute presentation.

What I want to present on is how China's ever growing economy's reliance on the Yangtze river drove the Baiji dolphin to extinction. So, let me ask you guys and I'd greatly appreciate your feedback...

Yesh?
No?
Way outta my league?

sounds like a serious enough topic. maybe you could widen your scope and talk about dolphins being endangered animals - the reasons, some stats, what measures are being taken to save them, what the man on the street can do for their part etc. then at least we should be able to relate to it better.

Hmm...good idea. I could amend my topic and jsut focus on the dolphin itself and not really bring in China as frontliner topic. Thanks for your views!

I know this is going to sound utterly ridiculous, but, in my molecular biology class, our professor was discussing gene expression, and tied it in to the birth of the the Panda at the San Diego zoo. Seems that Pandas are genetically lazy and to get them to reproduce, in the Chengdu Zoo in China, they actually lure the male panda's into a room with a bottle of milk, then show them XXX movies and a while later, release the males out to the waiting females. When I heard this, I just couldn't stop laughing, and I don't think I'll ever be able to go into a movie theater again without seeing everyone else as pandas. You may like to research this story and you'll have the class rolling in the aisles absolutely hysterical.

Mark,

Hahahah! Y'know, I've read about that too and all I can say is that; WHAT A GENIUS IDEA!! I guess it's pretty funny, and I bet even more so if you actually got to see the panda going all "gung-ho" after the ladies after watching porn!

Thanks for the suggestion but you spoke too late! Boo! I already made my ppt slides about the Baiji's extinction sooooo maybe next time! Thanks again! ;)
