V-Moda

Taking No Chances : Ordered heaps of replacements!

Now Playing : www.solopianoradio.com

Today I received my ear rubber thingy replacements in the mail, after putting in an order for them last Thursday after I had lost the left ear rubber thingy in the library on the same day. I must say that I am very impressed with the speedy service V-Moda provides (I noticed it arrived in Malaysia at least four days ago but had to pass customs clearance first--why it took four days to clear some tiny rubber thingies is beyond me) and I highly recommend their high-quality earphones to the other audiophiles out there. It is definitely worth the price and you won't regret buying it. I've never been happier with any earphone purchase. Using them to listen to the online radio station I'm listening to now is pure heaven. I've also heard that Shure's earphones are perfect for this genre of music, but I haven't been able to afford those yet, so I can't tell you. :P

What a beaut!! (I've got these)

Another Brick In The Wall

Dr. Mahmud showed us Pink Floyd's Another Brick In The Wall music video today in class. However, I was sort of disappointed when it wasn't the version I liked. Here it is for your viewing pleasure!

Pardonnez mon anglais - Partie 5

Soooo, when the game gets boring, does that mean I can't...

Now Playing : www.radiodismuke.com

You know, I have often compared--in a good way--Jules' blog and my own. How I put hers on a pedestal because hers is so intellectually inclined while mine consists mostly of those which...aren't. You can pretty much tell that I do look up to her smarts. I admire it.

What I'm trying to say is that I'm not really going to try to post more intellectual-sounding posts just to sound smarter. In fact, I don't think I want that kind of pressure on my blog. Maybe it bores some people, I'm not sure, but I'm just going to continue on blogging about the things and events that revolve around me.

I hope that doesn't make you think I'm unintellectually inclined, though.

I Must Not Fall Aslee....zzzz

How adorable!

Now Playing : "Singin' In The Rain" - Jamie Cullum

Gosh!

I am so embarassed!

Why? Because I nodded off in class today. Ah big deal! you may say but the problem is that I was frequently nodding off in Dr. Stefanie Pillai's (you do not fall asleep in her class) class and when she was standing in front of me while she lectured to the class, I nodded off so violently, my entire head and neck flung backwards only to be violently flung back forwards in natural reaction.

Of course, she saw this. >_<

The weirdest thing is that she chuckled instead and asked if I was okay and went on to say something about "identity crisis"--Jules and Shubes thinks that she may have thought my violent display of sleepiness was a response to her lecture (or question--I don't know, I wasn't listening because I was too busy falling asleep)!

Either way, although I got off lucky, I can't help but feel terribly embarrassed! I don't like nodding off in class but it's something I often do. Bah! However, today's nodding off I know the source of it....

Phil!!!!!!

I'm going to get you for this!

Mwuahahahah!

Just wanted to say...

Sunway Pyramid

Now Playing : "Friends" - Ryan Adams

It's no secret that I really don't like going into Sunway (and Sunway Pyramid) due to its congested location and traffic jams. However, if someone offers to drive me then I don't mind so much.

Today, I had to make a trip to Sunway Pyramid and found out that they were building more parking lots. Although I applaud this, it was quite a big hassle not knowing how to get into the mall because their elevators and staircases were not yet opened up to the public. What made it worse was when we finally did find the way to the mall, it was a very long walk and the flood of people made the wait for the four elevators seem like an eternity.

Yeah, I really don't like going to Sunway.

Still, that wasn't the most unpleasant part of the trip today. As I was queueing (sp?) up to pay for my parking ticket, a guy in front of me had some problems in retrieving his change and the ticket. So naturally, he had to deal with the help coming through the intercom and thus, the line grew longer behind them.

It was no big deal, I could wait since I thought the problem would probably resolve quite quickly and if it didn't, I'd just go over to the next line. Like I said, it's not a big deal. However, there was this one super-impatient stout woman behind me who simply OVERTOOK me (and brushing against me in the process--ugh!!!) and demanded what the problem was!! The guy explained that there was some problem in retrieving the ticket and change but this seemed to have just gone over the woman's head when she said...

"can you let me go first???"

Eh woman, did you not hear them that there was a problem with the machine? Also, what makes you think that I'd let you go first--after me, you're only the third person in line! Surely you noticed that it's not only you who is waiting to pay?? I was completely disgusted by this woman's attitude.

So, I just left the line and hopped into the one right next to me, where my mother was already queuing up on my behalf after noticing there was a problem with the machine. The woman did the same, but after a quick peek on my part, I saw that she had to go right to the end of the very long line. Hah! Try asking someone to let you go first now! It amazes me really, how people can become when they're inconvenienced even by the slightest.

However, today's trip wasn't entirely lost as we bought this product called Choya Umeshu Plum Wine aperitif which after a sample tasting, tasted *so* delicious! The best part is that you could add it to other drinks! We bought the largest size bottle for only RM109.90 and I'm already itching to open it up! Unfortunately, the head of the house has put her foot down saying that it can only be drank during special occassions. Bleh. I'd most certainly recommend this to anyone!

Choya Umeshu Plum Wine

"I'm On My Way!"

Now Playing : "Catch The Sun" - Doves

"I'm on my way!!"

That is perhaps the one line I hate to hear people say. I mean, how often have you had someone say "I'm on my way!" and you end up waiting an eon for them to arrive?? What constitutes as "being on the way" anyway? Does it mean...
  1. I'm 5 minutes from where you are?
  2. I just left the place I'm at to come to yours?
  3. I'm about to leave/or in the process of leaving the place I'm at to get to yours?
  4. I'm stuck in traffic while on the way to yours but I forget to mention that I'm in traffic?
  5. I'm halfway there?
It would be so much easier--and lessen waiting time a great deal if people would just give their ETA or at least more specifics than letting people wait endlessly!

What prompted this post you ask? Well, I was having dinner with the family earlier tonight and was supposed to wait for my sister to join us. However, when we were at the end of the meal, she had yet to arrive! So after a quick call, she announced that she was on her way.
.
.
.
.
.
10 minutes later...
.
.
.
.
.
Another quick call. "I'm on my way!!!" she screams.

"But where are you?!?!" we screamed back.

"Still at the gym--but leaving now!!"

The gym is at least 25 minutes away from where we were.

Why banned?

Now Playing : "The Racing Rats" - Editors

I remember last year when Phil insisted that I watched the Dawn of the Dead DVD which he had brought, I was quite reluctant. "Why would I want to watch a zombie movie??" I had lamented. I wasn't a fan of gore movies and I still haven't made the leap, but after he had made a good argument that a horror movie junkie like me shouldn't rule out zombie movies, I relented...hesitantly.

DotD turned out to be quite entertaining.

And so, I've decided that I'd like to have a copy of my own. It's been over a year since my first and only viewing and up till now, I've yet to find it for sale in any of the local DVD shops--pirated or otherwise. I've grown quite frustrated at the fact that I just never seem to be able to find it anywhere and was infact, rather puzzled, since they sell the other zombie movies including George A. Romero's old DotD.

Then just the other day, my question was answered. A shopkeeper had told me (after I had asked for the DVD) that DotD is banned in Malaysia.

I was like, WHAT?

For some reason, it is banned in Malaysia, and that's why I couldn't find it everywhere I went (why it's not found even in the pirated shops, I've no idea O_o) and the only way I could get my hands on it was to order it online. BUT THAT WOULD COST ME A BUNDLE!!!

Needless to say, I was quite perturbed by this fact especially when the most puzzling part is that the other zombie and gore movies weren't banned! Land of the Dead, Shaun of the Dead, Turistas, The Hills Have Eyes, Hostel...etc etc they were all there!!

Why did DotD get banned??

Why is it the only one that got banned out of all the (possibly worse) zombie+gore movies out there??? I've always known that the Malaysian Censorship Board here was kinda crazy but this is news, even for me!

Still, if anyone knows where I can get my hands on a copy of DotD in Klang Valley, please let me know, aite? Mucho gracias ahead!

All Hail The New Blogging King

Well Sue has been gracious enough to allow me to be a co-editor on her blog! I'm extremely flattered and I promised myself I wouldn't let it go to my head! But well by my title it seems that i have failed miserably so here goes: Wohoo I'm the best I'm going to be the top blogger here from now on!!! LoL well just kidding... for now at least :P Well since this is a blog may as well say something interesting that happened to me lately... Just spent the last couple of weeks in Poland as part of a team of soldiers walking 300km on a catholic pilgrimage. Was it worth it? heck yeah everything was much cheaper over there and I bought a whole bunch of cheap beer and vodka! All of that more than helped soothe the pain of the blisters and aching muscles so i'm good for now!! Well now i'm learning the pashto language with some new state of the art computer program for the army but only time will tell if a hard head like me can really learn anything from it :P

This is the chief signing out!

Newbie

Now Playing : "Lady in Red" - Chris de Burgh

Wow, it looks like I haven't posted in a couple of days and I barely even realized it! I do have some announcements and rants (as usual :P), however so listen up!

First off, Phil is finally back from Poland and I'm happy to announce that he is now my guest contributor to this blog, which means that if you see any funky lookin' post, it's probably his doing!! Ahkakakaka!! Naw, I'm just kidding really! But seriously, I have no idea what he's going to post so it'll be just a big of a surprise for me as it is for you heh heh! Also, can someone please convince him to change his profile picture (on the basis that I've got better ones *wink*)??

Number two. I have to go for breakfast now so I'll be back later to complete this post. LMAO!

Update
4:40pm. I'm back at home and it has been an exhausting day and embarrassingly enough, I kept nodding off in two classes. I just hope no one important noticed :P I had a lot of things that I wanted to blog about today, but after going for breakfast earlier, I pretty much forgot them all *lol*. I've got quite a load of work to complete and I have a bloody 8am test tomorrow which I have yet to study for so I'm not going to ponder on until I remember what it was that I wanted to blog about.

BUT

I do remember one rant at least. I'd just like to take this opportunity to say that the traffic light system in Malaysia is CRAP!! Absolute total crap!! There is always something the matter with the traffic lights--the best part about this is that DID YOU KNOW that even just rain always (keyword : always) causes the traffic lights to shut down which in turn causes chaos and endless jams and my blood pressure running up and my cursing becoming more colorful.....okok, you get the picture.

Everyday it's been raining--not hard, but it's not a drizzle either and everyday I have to put up with the new traffic lights (and you'd think it was the old ones that were futzing out on a ridiculously regular basis?) causing unneeded stress! Most days it's not working, some days the countdown counter counts either too little or too much causing heavy traffic, some other days the lights turn red too fast, allowing only about six cars out of 30+ cars through and some other other days the red light skips yellow and jumps to green (and vice versa) and causes pretty close calls (having been in one myself!)!! Also, sometimes green just never shows. >_<

Seriously, are you trying to kill us road users?!?

OK, I know I was supposed to wait for an answer, Jane, but I couldn't resist putting it up already because the shot was just so good and so brilliant and professionally taken! Show the world your brilliant eye for awesome pictures!

"Perviot"--what I'd like to call a pervert who is an idiot at the same time. This guy, who sent me the above IM, definitely qualifies. I think I speak for many, many women who are on the receiving end of endless men looking for cheap thrills, that this is really, really annoying and insulting. I don't even know the dude!! Geez, the nerve of some people!

Somethings

Now Playing : "I'm Glad I Hitched My Apple Wagon to Your Star" - The Boy Least Likely To

Wheee! After going through season 6 of 24 at warp speed earlier this month, I just got season 3 of The Office (U.S) and I can't wait to start watching it since I find it totally hilarious and kinda embarrassing at times when Steve Carrell pulls his character's crazy antics!

Also, I went to watch Ratatouille today and it is now my new favorite PIXAR movie. It is so good, I agree with her!

For some reason, I simply have no motivation to get moving on my 5 page paper which is due next thursday. *Sigh*

Man, I miss my pwig. I hope he returns from Poland soon. ;)

'splains alot, K.

...and yet it was a gathering of brilliant minds.

Now Playing : "Singin' In The Rain" - Jamie Cullum

Warning : This is a rant post. To my dear readers who may not want their day darkened (even if just a little :P) by this, don't read lah ok. Also, don't flame me if you chose to read it because I did warn you in the first place. To those that may end up feeling hurt after reading this, you know I only tell the truth.

Now, I'm not saying that this applies to everybody (one should know not to generalize things in any way), but it seems to me that despite a university is a place where great minds flock to, people can remain quite...immature. Unfortunately, I realized this (or it hit me even more so) today, even before it struck lunch hour. Needless to say, despite having somewhat of a previous knowledge about this, today just shocked me more than I thought it could.

I feel so ashamed, and in particular for Dr.Mahmud. Can't anyone see that he's obviously trying to be better in handling our class? I feel so bad for him that he's putting in so much effort--especially after he listened to our "advice" and yet, virtually no-one is paying any attention in class! Sometimes, I feel ashamed to be in a class where people don't seem to want to give an ounce of respect nor chance to someone of seniority. I know the subject is dull as cardboard but I feel very strongly that students shouldn't be talking their asses off, taking pictures and treating a senior authority with such childish gestures (unfortunately, there have been quite a few, done most frequently behind a turned back) while the class is going on. I just think that that is very rude, very disrespectful and very immature.

I do want to apologize to Dr.Mahmud on behalf of certain parties.

The other thing that bugged me immensely today is how someone who had absolutely no business about private matters was just able to poke their nose in and criticize baselessly. I just can't bring myself to see how someone can just butt into an on-going conversation and tell someone off! Yes, she does know what she's saying and even if she doesn't, what the fucking hell gives you the right to do that? How extremely rude of you.

Kudos to Shubes for standing up for herself.

Panic

Now Playing : www.radiodismuke.com

Do you remember the days when you were still in school and the moment you see a teacher walking towards your class you run into your class screaming "teacher's coming!!! teacher's coming!!! cikgu sudah datang!!!" and everybody scrambles to their designated seats and pretend to be angels. The panic every student goes through! Haih!

You know, now that I'm in university--in my final year, no less--I thought I had outgrown that sort of thing. But just a couple of minutes ago, I was looking at Jules' laptop screen over her shoulders when a lecturer of ours logged into YIM. This is an actual conversation that I can't believe just took place;

Jules : Eh, Ms.X just logged on lah!
Me : What?! Quick!! Go offline!! Go offline!!

Sampat lah me.

Update : For the Love of Flukes and Flippers

At last I've finally managed to compile a long list of links regarding the conservation and interest in whales, dolphins and porpoises, with particular emphasis on the killer whale (because it's my favorite species) and I hope that those who are interested would take some time to pay a visit to these sites (the list is located on the right of this page) and hopefully contribute to saving these beautiful and majestic creatures and help prevent another species of cetacea from being driven to extinction like the recent Baiji.

When life hands you durians...

Durians

Now Playing : www.radiodismuke.com

...you take Life to court and sue the crap out of it.

If you know about namawee's "Negarakuku" and "Kawanku", then you will know what I'm referring to.

Unfortunately, I can't provide youtube links to the said videos or in actuality, talk about the said subject because I've been made to sign a certain Aku Janji pledge and as long as I'm a student, I'm expected not to (or at least suppress) have a mind or drive to talk politics which may in turn, brainwash or influence people.

Reason no.2 is that my blog is new and I don't want it to be taken away from me. :P

All I can say is that--and I hope I don't get into trouble for saying this--silencing people from talking about real problems isn't going to solve anything because sooner or later, one of these days, all hell will probably break loose.

OK, I better keep my trap shut. Big Brother is probably watching.

But this quote by someone regarding the same issue hits home like no other;

I'm sick again, and I'm pretty sure this time I caught the flu and cough from Shubes (lol don't kill me!*wink*). What terrible timing to be falling sick, since there are many errands that I have to run tomorrow (sorry, Jules--we'll get that ticket on Monday, hopefully) and I still need to learn how to drive all the way to Putrajaya so that I can attend Darren's graduation at Lim Kok Wing on Saturday. Whoever's attending that ceremony, if you hear incessant coughing and nose blowing somewhere in the hall, you can be sure it's coming from me

Argh, my eyes are starting to buuuuuurn! Ought to go pay the doc a visit tomorrow. How I hate meds! Blogging will resume when I'm better!

Hoodwinked

Now Playing : "Pavane Op.50" = Gabriel Fauré

Ok, I admit that when I bought my 1992 issued car for the bargain(ed) flat price of RM20K back in 2005 and being its fourth owner, I knew that this car would come with its own set of (possible) problems.

True enough, I was right.

It is now 2007 and it has gone through two years of problems ranging from interior and exterior parts falling off, numerous repairs for problems like the gearbox being burnt, and more-constant-than-usual replacement parts such as the spark plug.

So, just when I thought everything was going fine during a well-appreciated quiet period, yesterday morning my car couldn't start no matter how many times I turned the ignition--and I was going to be late for class!

I cursed.

I scolded the car.

I cursed again.

The problem didn't come too much as a surprise to me, however. From the very moment I had bought this car, it always had the tendency to need a few turns at the ignition to start, but it had always started in the end. I've tried to get it fixed since this is obviously not normal and my mechanic always replaces the spark plug

I didn't really think much about this until last night when I called AAM to come fix the problem at my home. He took several minutes to inspect under the hood and to save him some time, I suggested that there may be a problem with the spark plug. However, to my surprise, he said that there was absolutely nothing wrong with the spark plug, but it was the battery instead.

I was like, huh? I did a quick mental calculation of the last time I had refilled the battery water. To my relief from thinking that it may have been my fault that the car couldn't start, he had announced that the battery that came with the car was not powerful enough for my car, especially with all the modifications that the previous owners had bestowed upon it.

Within half an hour, my car had a spankin' new battery and now it has none of the ridiculous starting up problems and purrs like a kitten (it previously had a very loud engine).

Then, I realized something.

If it had been the battery causing the start-up problems all this while, why the heck was my mechanic always changing the spark plug when there was nothing wrong with it?! Being a mechanic, surely he would have thought to check if it was the battery which was causing the problem, right?

Then I had the sinking feeling that maybe, just maybe, he just kept on changing the spark plug so that this problem would never go away and he'd always be in business.

Needless to say, now I've got my reservations about going back to this guy for my routine maintenance. I really don't want to be going to a dishonest man for shoddy--or dare I say, less than proper and honest--work on my car which, should fail in the middle of the highway, could cause irreparable damage to my car, and most importantly my passengers and I.

A cheesy situation

Now Playing : "All Sparks" - Editors

Here is an actual conversation I just had with a McDonald's phone-in-order operator.

McD : Welcome to McDonald's, how may I help you?

Me : I would like to make an order.

McD : What would you like to order?

Me : I would like to order two double cheeseburgers, and make them plain. ("Plain" cheeseburgers in McD universally refers to omitting the tomato sauce, onions and pickles).

McD : Plain. (Pauses) Do you want cheese?

Me : What??

McD : Do you want cheese in your cheeseburgers?

Me : (With a huge amount of self-control to not become sarcastic and a not-so-genuine chuckle) Well, if the cheeseburgers didn't have cheese in them, they wouldn't be called cheeseburgers, would they?

McD : (Long pause) So...do you want cheese?

*faints*

Those pokey things

Now Playing : "Bullets" - Editors

I had the scare of my life at the most unusual time today.

It happened during lunch as I was enjoying a seafood infused Japanese lunch.

California roll. Mmmmmm....

Sake sashimi. Mmmmmm....

Ebi tempura. Mmmmmm....

Sabe teriyaki. Mmmmmm....*eurk!!*

My eyes bulged and I grabbed my throat.

I felt sharp poke as the muscles contracted. Something had become lodged in my esophagus. I swallowed and swallowed (this is beginning to sound so dirty -_-"), hoping the saliva would help the foreign object along its way to the acid room...but it did not budge.

It became apparent that the fish bone was intent on not moving without a fight.

I became worried, and prayed it had not already stuck itself into the walls of my esophagus. I swallowed harder, but no results.

Quickly, I grabbed my juice and sucked the hell out of the straw.

As each mouthful of juice that travelled down my throat, it propped the bone to poke even more. It wasn't working. I began to panic just a little bit. Would shifting the gears into Reverse help?

"Eat some rice!!!!!!"

My mother had shoved a spoonful of white vinegar rice in my face. In spite of what was happening, I hesitated. I've never been one to really believe that swallowing rice would help dislodge anything from one's throat. What if the rice pushed the bone deeper into the flesh of my throat? What if...?

Unfortunately, at this point I was out of other things to swallow and grabbed the spoon and shoved it into my mouth and chewed the rice as fast as my jaws could work. Then it was time to try it for real.

Swallow just one more time, my head screamed. With my tongue acting as a food dam, I did.

My eyes bulged again...this time with surprise instead of shock.

"Where the hell is the bone?!?!"

I spat out the rice and gulped down some iced tea just to test. It really wasn't there anymore; it picked itself up and went down like how gravity should have taken it in the first place. Relief swept me, and I was able to relax again--oh, and let my clutching hand go of my throat.

"See? I told you the rice would work! You didn't believe me!" my mother exclaimed.

Should I tell her otherwise? All I know is that I was glad there was no longer a fish bone in my throat and that I'll rethink having teriyaki mackerel the next time I visit this particular Japanese restaurant (I love teriyaki mackerel and have it in countless Japanese restaurants...this is the first time it's actually posed as a problem).

Cure for the Itch

Now Playing : "Bones" - Editors

After a two day hiatus from blogging, I've decided to give my fingers a break from the neverending tedious scratching and put them back to work on the keyboard. People, I'm back for your reading pleasure. I must say though, that inbetween the incessant scratching and carrying on with everyday life as normally as I could without having to run into a phone booth like Clark Kent to scratch (not change into tight spandex), I haven't got much to blog about... unless you want to hear me rant how I've been scratching until my nails become polished. No kidding! Also found out something new about myself--well, more like realized. Ol' doc Herbert has told me that I have hypersensitive skin. Go figure.

Good thing I don't have a personality to match, eh? *wink*

I wonder if I can work this to my advantage of getting high-end skin products...

Since it's been pretty shitty looking like a deformed person from some horror movie with bad special effects, I've treated myself to buying another two CDs (in addition to the other two I've recently bought), bringing up the number to four CDs bought in under two months. Quite rare for me to do really! Anyhoo, I treated myself to Billy Corgan's TheFutureEmbrace and the Editors' new album, An End Has A Start. Let me just point out that Shakespeare did have a point with his "What's in a Name?" question.

TheFutureEmbrace is much better than Zeitgeist.

The moniker "Smashing Pumpkins" doesn't really make Billy Corgan's talents shine out more than expected and perhaps can even cause opposite results. He probably shouldn't have used the name SP to win sales for Zeitgeist but rather "BC*lightning*JC". I think that would have been much more apt.

As for the Editors' new album, it's pretty good--and it had me at first listen *wink*--but I think I'm safe to say that the new songs are lacking a certain kick that The Back Room's songs had. I dunno, maybe it's just me. But BR's songs were more distinct. However, "Bones" would come pretty close to BR's sound and is currently the song I like best from this new album.

Okay, I'm done with CD reviews. I'm off to bed and to dream of a scratch-free world.
