Reignited 2.0
Now Playing : "What I've Done" - Linkin Park
How funny it is that the same day I blogged about rekindling my affair with LP, that very afternoon I go out and buy their new album! I was quite lucky actually, because I got it cheap(er) at a sale...it was going at RM36.90 wherelse elsewhere it was selling for RM45.90!
Let me just say that...Hybrid Theory was one of those albums where every song was perfect.
Meteora was the follow-up that didn't disappoint.
Minutes to Midnight however, should thank its stars that What I've Done was used in Transformers and its loyal fans who would still buy their albums even if the standard has gone down because it really has. Chester Bennington's vocals are the only familiar sound in the entire album. Mike Shinoda has gone on a rap hiatus. Joe Hahn has abandoned his turn table. This is a ballad album. What happened to the greatness of Linkin Park?? Where have all the head-trashing music gone to??
After such a long hiatus, you would think they'd return to us with a spankin' album but nooooo. It sounds like any rock album you could get from the likes of what's playing on the radio these days. The Nu-Rock masters seem to have lost their magic touch. Even What I've Done needed quite a few listens and its Transformers feature to be loved. What happened?? What happened?? If LP were planning on shocking its fans with their music...congratulations boys, you did it! Not in a good way too!
The thing I'm disappointed about is how this album makes one realize how crucial Mike Shinoda's raps were to LP's great essence. I want Mike Shinoda's raps! And Mr.Bennington needs to scream more!
The thing I'm disappointed with MOST is how LP has suddenly decided to go all "Parental Advisory". This puts me off! I liked them for their decision not to use swear words in their songs and now they choose to go down this lane--with this album??? What were they thinking?
Minutes to Midnight rating : B
