Checkers

Now Playing : "Take Me Out" - Franz Ferdinand

"Life cannot be fully enjoyed unless one learns to enjoy food."

Those are the wise words of a friend who loves the company of good food as much as I do. Being a self-proclaimed carnosaur, I love a good hearty meal. Earlier tonight was the promise of that at Checkers, a small local restaurant, apparently famous through the spread of the word of mouth for its pork--ribs, chops, etc. When we got there, it was quite apparent that the employees were fever high with the new (or upcoming) Pixar movie, Ratatouille. Not only do they offer a ratatouille dish, but we also found these signs all over the place!

You think they misspelled "Restauranteur" on purpose? :P

Apparent signs of Ratatouille fever!

BBQ pork ribs and mashed potato

However, none of us ordered a ratatouille due to previous experiences with ratatouilles where it didn't taste very good at all! So I ordered the BBQ pork ribs (shown above) while some of us ordered pork chop with sausage (shown below). Although my parents and Fred--well, actually, everyone else seemed to have liked their meals very much, I didn't like mine at all--despite how appetizing they all look in the pictures! The thing is, everything on my plate had tasted very citrus-y. My pork ribs tasted like citrus, my mashed potato even tasted like someone squeezed a lot of lemon into it, and my salad was waaaaaaay too citrus-y! Actually, my pork ribs were literally swimming in pineapple gravy. Yuk!

Pork chop with sausage

I don't know about you, but I prefer my food separate from fruits (all things citrus). I'll eat the fruits, as long as they're not assimilated into cooked food--and themselves, cooked in return. I'll eat food, as long as there aren't any fruits in them! I also really don't like citrus-y tasting food, that being said, I'll go without the lemon zest decorative shavings, or simmered papaya (is there even such a thing?) and the habit of squeezing lime all over tandoori chicken.

Fruits and food should not mix!
