Now Playing : www.radiodismuke.com

You know, I have often compared--in a good way--Jules' blog and my own. How I put hers on a pedestal because hers is so intellectually inclined while mine consists mostly of those which...aren't. You can pretty much tell that I do look up to her smarts. I admire it.

What I'm trying to say is that I'm not really going to try to post more intellectual-sounding posts just to sound smarter. In fact, I don't think I want that kind of pressure on my blog. Maybe it bores some people, I'm not sure, but I'm just going to continue on blogging about the things and events that revolve around me.

I hope that doesn't make you think I'm unintellectually inclined, though.

it's natural to compare yourself to the ones around you. when i read your blog, i don't expect a julianne-influenced post, i expect to read what you felt was good enough to blog. you may not write "intellectual" posts, but not everybody wants to read that! there is a market for "bimbo" bloggers, you know... ;)

at the end of the day, it's your blog and you should blog about whatever you want. readers' reaction and hits are just icing on the cake. :)

Eh why suddenly pulak?

I like reading your blog as is... You have your own style, I have mine... ;)

I use blogging as an avenue for expression and for me to have my own voice. And I also have an affinity to write somewhat philosophical posts... You don't have to do the same. ;)

according to an online dictionary, nonintellectual is an antonym of intellectual. while, the anti-intellectuals are the ones uninterested in intellectual pursuits. the intellectuals, on the other hand, are defined as people, who use their minds creatively (not always, they can be so boringly bookish).

now who doesn't use his/ her mind creatively. everyone does. it is not possible to be nonintellectual.

yes, the social cognition is, the intellectuals should be referring to books all the time, know philosopehrs and creative writers, but, what's the purpose? why do we have to take the burden of knowing? what can we do by knowing? can we change the reality - the existing status quo? shouldn't we just keep our bloody mouth shut and learn to enjoy whatever we have?

i guess the desire to talk intellectual is instilled in us without any good reason. we need to unlearn a lot of things just to appreciate nature, beauty and whole series of abstract phenomena.

the more we learn to appreciate beauty, nature and even relationship like friendship, the more we realise that it is meaningless to intellectualise these phenomena.

there was a huge movement in england in the later part of the 19th century which used slogans like "art for art's sake." the goal of the movement was to justify that the authors shouldn't be pre-occupied with any intellectual agenda.

in that sense, if you 'blog about whatever you want,' reflects the 19th century aesthetic movement. so go ahead lah!

remember one thing, knowledge, for sure, kills creativity.

Wow, to be honest I had never expected to generate so many responses (apart from Jules' lah eh *wink*) and after reading them, I must say I'm touched!

*heart melts*

Just for the record, I wasn't trying to copy Jules' style or anything (I do believe that you should be your own person) but was merely saying that I do look up to her in terms of her critical thinking skills. She and Su Lyn (who still doesn't have a blog *ahem!*) have a lot to say and it's always a pleasure hearing their thoughts. Countless times, it's been secret-lessons of mine.

Dear Anon, thank you for those kind words--it was quite the eye opener. I have never "dissected" my desire to be smart; only that I knew I wanted it and it was a continuous process for me. You have made me realize that it's okay not to be at the top of your class (not to say that I was aiming for that but you get what I mean) and provided an insight to this desire. The 19th century reference was quite the appropriate one, I think. As far as creativity is limited with knowledge, I don't have enough real-life basis to say that in general and know an individual who counters that. Perhaps it's just one of those things that I'd have to experience it personally to believe.

So, thank you guys. It was really touching.

*blush*

if i have blog i'll be having permanent verbal diarrhoea. so many things to say, so little time! hahaha...

then again, i've always been more a reader than a speaker. i'm happy enough to babble in front of the sampat people.

With that permanent verbal diarrhea, at least you won't run out of things to blog about, right? :P
