Party Planner

Ian's birthday party is coming up this Saturday and yours truly has volunteered to include a game or two into the itinerary--right there between eating, video games and cake--just so the lot does not spend four hours glued in front of the telly.

This isn't my first time coming up with games for a kids party, although technically all those previous years doesn't count as it doesn't take two seconds to throw musical chairs and hide and seek into the mesh. And since now that I'm teaching, hey, who better than to direct those skills into contributing something to this party?

I spent the past week experimenting with a game or two with my classes, whenever I was able to sneak some time. I basically suck at coming up with creative games, so I did what I know best--a general knowledge game. The very mention of the name made my kids literally groan at the possible dullness by the sound of it.

However, they soon changed their minds. Here's how the game works;

1. Divide kids into smaller groups
2. Distribute sheets of paper and pencils to one elected member of each group
3. Ask questions
4. Kids get 60 seconds to write down as many answers as they can come up with
5. Points are awarded based on how many correct answers they give
6. Winner gets bragging rights for the day

This is a list of questions I've been able to come up with so far and have tested;

Name as many...

1. Countries which names end with -land
2. Animals which live on both land and in water
3. Insects which do not have any color of the rainbow
4. Countries which names end with -a
5. Animals which names start with the letter C

The kids really enjoyed these games, but I'm running out of ideas. I try not to ask easy questions like no.5 and prefer those which require a little more thinking (no.1-4). Any ideas? I would appreciate it!

The End of Birthday Celebrations

It's been too long a while since I've had a really great birthday.

This year's is one to always remember...thanks to the people involved and the days spent celebrating it, I couldn't have asked for a better way to spend it (other than having Phil down here with us, of course).

Tonight, my family went for our long awaited annual birthday dinner, this year at some really fancy Japanese buffet restaurant in Eastin Hotel. This marks the end of birthday celebrations which began at 12am Thursday and what a way to bring it to an end with great food and great company.

My family and I having awesome Japanese food!

A big surprise!
My dad got me this camera as my birthday present, something quite unusual for him as he normally gives angpows for my birthdays.

Another big surprise!
My dad got my mum this really cool new phone, also something quite unusual for him as he normally gives her jewelry and angpows as well!

Sigh.

What a great birthday.

Happy Birthday To Me!!

Twenty-three!!

Woo hoo! It's my birthday today!!

It's been one I've been looking forward to a lot, even more than my 16th or 21st birthday as my 23rd birthday holds a lot of significance for me--or at least for this family because the number 23 holds a special place in our hearts.

I want to say thank you all soooo much for the birthday wishes I have been receiving and I'm touched you took the effort of sending them.

Also a special thank you to my family, most especially my sister June, for toiling over two birthday cakes for me and my mum's birthday! (I did mention we share the same birthdate, right?)

Here are a few pictures of our traditional midnight celebration :D

Our lovely cakes that June baked.
Can you guess which belongs to who?

One of the best cakes I've ever had!

I didn't want to cut into the beautiful cake...but eventually I caved.
Oooh, and colorful surprises behold inside!

Someone sent me this lovely birthday card...and forgot to sign it.
I have no idea who sent it O_o

Birthday cards from June and Mum!! Lovely!!

June's homemade birthday gift to me.
Inspired by our joke-cracking dad, of course. ;)

Look, No Touch

Yes, I know.

It's not even October yet and I've already gotten a birthday present for my mother. At the moment, it's on display on the dining table and will be until the 23rd. She'll have to look at it each and every time she wants to go to the kitchen--and come out of it. I wonder if she's tempted to pry the sides open...hmm! Oh well, could be fun watching her resist for almost a month! Heehee!

The truth about me and buying presents is that I love to do it. Birthdays, Christmas or just-for-fun, I try to find excuses to buy the people I love and/or care for things whenever I see something that makes me think of them. I normally think about what I'm going to get someone a birthday/Christmas present at least a few months ahead and always set out to buy it one month in advance.

Except...

...when I have no idea what to get! :P

Bierhaus Birthday

Just came home from a birthday outing for Fred (Happy 18th!) and we tried this new German restaurant (well, it was new to us!) at the Curve called Bierhaus...something. I can't remember the whole name. It was a really nice place and thank god I wasn't on a diet today because the food was fatty yet excellent! My only complaint was that I wished I had tried the beer since I've always wanted to try German beer but I don't like beer in general so pooh! Anyway, it was a blast and here are some photos I snapped tonight! Enjoy!

Ps : I couldn't get a picture of Mario, he seemed to shy away from the camera! :(

The birthday boy!

There were friends...

There was food...

There was fun!

There was me! *smirk*

Best of all, there was cake!!

I would have posted more pictures of tonight's fun fun fun birthday celebration but I think Jules is going to take care of that on her blog. I hope you'll find my gift veeery useful and if you don't, don't tell me anyway hahaha! I absolutely enjoyed myself immensely during our little joyride in the car and it was the fun fun fun time that was the cause of all the giggles and the hysterical laughter and not the alcohol!

Look! Nice pictures of us!

Likey my new haircut?

Baaack!

Now Playing : "Everybody (Backstreet's Back)" - Backstreet Boys

Well, I'm back again. Still not quite recovered from this nasty flu, though. Oh, and also since the last time I've blogged, there's been a change *winkwinknudgenudge*.

I am now 22.

Twenty-two.

Wheeeeeeeeeeeee!

Well okay, maybe the "whee" was exaggerated. Twenty-one or twenty-two, I still feel the same. At times, I do think that birthdays would seem more significant if, at the stroke at midnight, one would feel an instant twang of intellect pop inside their heads.

Okay, that does sound kinda silly.

Anyway, the point is that I don't really feel any different at all. However, the birthday celebrations were nice, thanks to friends and family who took care to make sure we enjoyed ourselves; and I lost six pounds prior to my birthday--not enough, but it was borderline satisfactory for the time being (although, I must say the amount of food consumed in the three days of celebration might had as well put all six pounds right back on).

And of course, the special someone who made it a point to come see you on your special day even if took him quite a few tries to.

I think I'm good :)

Puddles

I really wanted to put up the pictures from today's wonderful birthday outing (thank you SO much Jules, June, Darren, Fred, Su Lyn, Edmond!!) but I've got a massive splitting headache and as the previous post had mentioned, I'm sick. So hopefully I will have them up sometime tomorrow and in the meantime here's a picture of our cute new Maltese puppy!!

Thank you so much for the wonderful time guys!

The Gardens

The Gardens @ Mid Valley

Now Playing : "The Great Parade" - Her Space Holiday

I know I've been moping about, especially at night, for the past couple of days and I'm sure by now I need not elaborate on why.

Shopping is my therapy. I'm female. So sue me.

I skipped a class today to go shopping. Technically, my actions are justified because I had a birthday present to hunt and besides, I wasn't willing to warm the chair for two hours listening to presentations. And I was hungry and didn't want to subject my stomach to puasa-style food, if you know what I mean.

So my chauffeur Jules and I head over to MV Megamall and unknowingly parked in The Gardens' parking lot. Finally got to walk around the new shopping mall and liked the fact it felt like Singapore's Takashimaya-cum-Hong Kong's Harbour City. That being said, the probability of me spending on a whim there has the same chance of me buying a camel.

Still, I did buy something and fulfilled my goal at the same time; I managed to score a pretty darn awesome birthday gift for my mum and just spent the night adding the magic touch. Can't tell you what it is though, you'll have to wait until the 23rd like everybody else. It was expensive, that much I can tell you. Also I think the shop is bewitched. Put one foot in and you're instantaneously inspired of ideas of all the things you could do with their products.

Well I was inspired to fork out nearly a hundred bucks. Yeah. Bewitched.

Don't get me wrong. I'm actually in a happier-ish mood.

Really.

Know By Heart

Now Playing : "Nothing Like You and I" - The Perishers

I know what I want.

What I really, really want.

Birthdays are just one of the few events each year that I look forward to and even though I don't throw parties to celebrate this special occasion, nevertheless the things that make it special are the people you spend it with.

Your family.

Your amigos.

What is probably essential but secondary are the presents; the icing on the frosted chocolate cake. My birthday is in 15 days and the questions of what do I want for my birthday have already come. The answer, as always, is quite simple really; anything I can use for or with my laptop/iPods will be, and always is, greatly appreciated. But...

That's not what I want this year.

What I so desire is a mixture of the two-the one person's presence on that day would truly be the best gift I could ever have. It's crazy how we've spent so many birthdays apart. Nonetheless, as much as I wish this would indeed happen, at the very same time in my heart I know that it really is quite the most impossible thing. That being said...

All I want for my birthday

is you.
