Spelling error?
I came across this advert while online and stopped in my tracks as I gazed upon the slogan "Experience Instant Getification".
Uh...
What exactly does "getification" mean? I've looked it up, nobody knows what it means. Could it be a spelling error or a pun?

ReplyDeleteThat's a very good question you posed concerning "getification!" It is not actually a word you will find in any dictionary. What it is, is Ask.com's use of literary license, to come up with a new word. It's meaning is that you will get/satisfaction from their product. There are no hard and fast rules in English for this, however, it is very popular to do. As long as you have a good understanding of the English language, you shouldn't have a problem figuring out what those "weird" words mean. I hope this helps.

ReplyDeleteYes, I thought it might have been a pun as well since the word "getification" does not exist. You brought up a pretty good point also regarding the advertising industry's creative literary license. I have seen plenty, but it never really occurred to me to think about them until you mentioned it.
